Laser Treatments

Lasers work by using specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissue, positively affecting pigment, blood vessels, hair follicles, and moisture in the skin, ultimately improving skin tone and texture, as well as tightening loose skin. The following list is just a sample of the laser treatments offered by CSCD.

Fraxel®

The Center for Skin was one of the earliest practices to offer Fraxel Laser Treatment, which is used for skin resurfacing; treatment of wrinkles around the eyes; and treatment of pigmented lesions, such as age spots, sunspots, and melasma. After Fraxel Laser Treatment, skin generally feels softer, looks smoother and tighter, and pores are usually smaller.

Fraxel improves your appearance by affecting only a fraction of your skin at a time with thousands of microscopic laser spots. Think of it as digital photo-editing software for your skin.

Fraxel Laser Treatment can be performed in our office using topical anesthesia. Treatment takes about 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area(s) being treated, and patients can generally resume routine activities right after treatment.

For optimal improvement, a series of three to five treatments spaced two to four weeks apart has been shown to be most effective. Results are both immediate and progressive, with noticeable, beneficial effects accumulating over one to three months.

Photorejuvenation

CSCD is a pioneer in refining and mastering photorejuvenation, or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, a treatment breakthrough that can correct a variety of benign skin conditions, such as facial skin imperfections, the signs of aging, birthmarks, unwanted hair, unsightly small veins, and other blemishes. It offers a safe, non-invasive solution that can be tailored to your individual condition and skin type, providing superior cosmetic results. In an effort to provide our patients with the most innovative treatments, our practice offers the newest technologies available: the
Lume One and the Palomar Starlux 500.

Treatment is generally administered in a series of procedures that provides excellent long-term results, minimal adverse effects and high satisfaction. Each treatment takes about 20 minutes.

You can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities. By dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk and no downtime.

ActiveFX Laser (Laser Skin Resurfacing)

The goal of laser skin resurfacing is simple: replace damaged skin with new, fresh skin. Laser skin resurfacing is primarily used for fine lines and wrinkles, loose eyelid skin, crow's feet around the eyes, smoker's lines and frown lines, uneven skin tone, scars (especially acne scars), and loose skin around the neck and jowls.

In a single treatment with minimal patient downtime, ActiveFX uses a high-energy beam of laser light to smooth out lines, wrinkles and scars, remove brown spots and other irregularities, and tighten the skin. It also stimulates formation of new underlying collagen to sustain improvement over time.

Most physicians perform the procedure in the office with a topical anesthetic cream that is applied 30-40 minutes before the ActiveFX procedure begins. There is little to no pain associated with the procedure – most patients say they feel warmth similar to sunburn. You can drive yourself home after the procedure, and because the healing process is fast, you can get back to normal activities within five to seven days.

The results of ActiveFX laser treatment are long-term and, with proper sun protection, can last for many years. Most effects of treatment become visible right away, whereas others – such as new collagen formation, which leads to continued inner tightening – build up gradually and become more evident over time. Therefore, most people look even better three to five months after the procedure.

Laser Hair Removal

CSCD employs the state-of-the-art systems necessary to remove unwanted hair faster, with less discomfort and more reliably than other methods, with treatments tailored to the patient’s skin type for maximum results and safety. The length of a laser treatment may last from a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated.

It is important to know that the hairs in an active growth phase are the ones most affected by the laser. Since all hairs are not in this phase at the same time, multiple treatments are required to achieve the best result.

Most patients tolerate the procedure well, but because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical anesthetic can be an option if needed. The appearance of the treated area immediately following treatment will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of the procedure and skin type.

While most people return to normal activity right away, SPF must be applied to the treated areas.
